Tottenham would have been “offered the chance” to sign Watford striker Troy Deeney, and “held talks” about a possible deal.
Spurs allowed Troy Parrott to join Millwall on loan on Saturday, and Jose Mourinho will make sure to sign a replacement as cover for Harry Kane.
And Watford is ready to dismiss Deeney as one of the many winners preparing for life in the Championship.
The Daily Mail they claim that Tottenham held talks about an initial loan agreement for Deeney, who admitted he may have played his last game for the Hornets in an emotional interview after the relegation.
Deeney told Sky Sports: “We were not good enough at both ends of the pitch and it came back today. It’s frustrating, disappointing, it’s heartbreaking for people working behind the scenes.
“There are a lot of people in clubs who are normally affected by relegation, so we feel sorry for them. I’ll give you something to talk about when it comes to social media.
“The harsh reality is that some people will lose their jobs because we were not good enough. As players, we need to move on, face this and, as a club and community, we go again. “
Callum Wilson of Bournemouth was also discussed, but he would require a higher transfer rate.
