A village in Duress
The episode begins with a village in peace, gathering fish-like creatures called krill as children play around the area, including a young girl named Winta chasing a frog beside the ponds. But they are disturbed by a group of Klatooin invaders, who kill some residents before they can hide with the rest and bring in dozens of supplies, including the latest krill crop. Winta and her mother Omera hide in a pond under a wicker basket until the robbers leave the area.
A place to stretch your legs
After narrowly escaping Greef and The Guild at the end of the last episode, Mando (Pedro Pascal) seeks a planet to hide with The Child, settling in Sorgan, as there are no signs of a high population density anywhere in the world. planet and is outside. of the federation's reach. They fly over the village of Winta and land in a secluded area of the forest, with Mando telling The Child to stay on the ship while he searches for accommodation, only to follow him to the door and he gives in and lets him appear.
Call Early Retirement
After finding a canteen in the middle of the woods, Mando notices a mysterious woman in armor sitting in the corner of the bar drinking alone and watching over them. After the server reveals that she has been on the planet for about a week, the woman has disappeared and Mando follows her out, both of them fighting before ending it as a halt while The Child watches while eating soup. She reveals her name is Cara (Gina Carano) and is a former imperial shock soldier who left office after the fall of the empire when she became disinterested in acting as a peacekeeper, suppressing unrest and protecting delegates. She currently lives in Sorgan as part of her "early retirement" and attacked Mando thinking he had a reward for her and was after her, with the former hunter having already discovered this. Despite clearing the air, Cara asks Mando to go to another planet not to attract too much attention, as the two hide away.
In the middle of nowhere
Before he can leave the planet, Mando is sought by krill farmers for help with the Klatooinian invaders, initially refusing the job, as the money they offer is not enough for his interest. However, as one of the two laments they have to venture without an escort to their farm in the middle of nowhere, this piques Mando's interest and, with a lodging offer, he accepts the job. But before they venture into the village, he offers Cara the job too, knowing she's looking for a place to hide, and the two leave with the farmers to return to the village. Upon arrival, they are warmly welcomed by the locals, with Mando approaching Omera while Winta joins The Child.
It's not the job they signed up for
While recognizing the invaders' movements through the forest, Cara and Mando discover large bands belonging to an AT-ST, worrying both of them and also enraging Cara, as residents prefer not to disclose the information. After talking with the villagers, it is clear that they are unaware of the walker, as they have never heard of the mech before. Although Cara wants to give up work, afraid that only two people will not be enough to confront the walker and that she does not want to train residents to fight the invaders, Mando chooses the last option and formulates a plan to arrest the criminals. AT-ST into a pond and train some locals how to shoot and others to fight sharp woods on spears.
Plans are not always perfect
Mando and Cara begin to execute their battle plan, which sees them infiltrating the invaders' camp and killing several invaders in close combat and blasting one of their tents with their supplies. This successfully attracts the AT-ST, which chases them through the forest before returning to the village where they set up barricades and dug a deep pond for the walker to enter and fall. However, when they take him back to the village, the walker's pilot is able to see the deep lake and stop just in time, illuminating the barricades to allow attackers an easier path to attack. While shielding themselves from the mech's laser blasts, Cara elaborates a plan, advancing Mando's wrist rifle into a nearby lake and luring the walker to step forward and fall into the trap, causing the rest of the invaders to retreat.
Happiness will have to wait
A few weeks after his success, Mando plans to leave the planet, revealing his choice to leave The Child in the village with Winta, Omera and Cara, the last of whom scolds him for choosing to go out and stay with Omera, who clearly has feelings for him. He reveals that he cannot remove his helmet in front of other people, as it is against the path of his tribe and in so doing he will never be able to put it back on. However, while talking to Omera, who nearly takes off his helmet, a bounty hunter uses a fob to track The Child and, as they see him, Cara is able to kill them in time. This causes Mando to change course and bring The Child back with him for adequate protection, leaving Omera and the village behind while The Child watches in disgust.
