Ole Gunnar Solskjaer addressed the impact Paul Pogba is now having on Man Utd and revealed what teen star Mason Greenwood must do to take the next step.
Man Utd managed a comfortable 3-0 win over Aston Villa to keep the heat from Leicester and Chelsea in the Champions League qualifying race.
Villa started the game on the better side, however, until the game depended on a dubious penalty decision given to Bruno Fernandes.
Regarding the decision, Solskjaer said: “I think it is a penalty. The boy stretches his leg, Fernandes makes a fantastic Zidane, Maradona turns and he falls on him. I think it’s a penalty.
“Entering the break at 2-0, we were a little lucky. Even with 1 to 0, I think our defenders would have been left out. They accepted the criticisms of the last game and performed well. “
In Mason Greenwood’s remarkable rise, Solskjaer added: “I’m doing my part to help him, but he has to do it – deliver training performances, games, live his life properly, it depends on how far he wants to go.
“He is 18 years old, of course he will improve. He’s a natural football player, he’s been in the gym since he was a kid, his dad showed me a photo when he was seven. He knows that we believe him. You cannot leave players out when they score goals. “
About Paul Pogba: “We still have a contract with Paul. He’s a fantastic person, a fantastic player – one of the best midfielders in the world. It’s a different team than the one he left when he got hurt. Everything is much better in that dressing room.
Pogba scored his first goal for the club since April 2019 and insisted that they must strive to make their recent hot wave the new normal: “We are really pleased with us because we know we need to continue.
“We talked before the game, in training, Manchester is a great club and we want to keep the level high. The performances of the past few weeks are Manchester United.
“We have to keep working, there is a lot to do.”
Regarding the teen sensation Greenwood, Pogba added: “I like to watch them play, this kid in training and in the game and I will keep pushing him to reach the top, he has a lot to do again, he can do even more than what you wanted. is doing, he is a talent.
“I have been injured for a long time, I concentrated on coming back – this year we have two goals: winning the Europa League and the FA Cup, so we focus on that.”
