Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is meeting this morning with families of victims of Wednesday's plane crash in Iran, which killed 176 people, including 138 who went to Canada.
Private talks in Toronto are taking place because there is an imminent threat of new tensions between Iran and the West.
US officials say they are launching new sanctions against Tehran for launching ballistic missile attacks earlier this week against two bases in Iraq housing US troops, one of which also contained Canadian forces.
Meanwhile, Iran denies that one of its missiles shot down the Ukraine International Airlines flight that crashed near Tehran.
Iran and Ukraine are urging the US and Canada to disclose information supporting such allegations as Canadian authorities are preparing to participate in the investigation of the crash.
Iran released images this morning allegedly showing the plane's two black boxes, which contain recorded data from the plane, although it is unclear whether the boxes will be handed over to outside investigators.
