The number of people infected with Covid-19 in New York increased to 10,356, at a time when that state is trying to increase the capacity of hospitals to 75,000 beds and buy masks for service providers.
The information was released this Saturday by Governor Andrew Cuomo, who announced that a million masks will be sent to New York City, where the largest number of cases is registered (6,211), with 500,000 going to Long Island City , which accumulates more than 1500 infected with the new coronavirus.
The remainder, of two million, will be distributed by that state, which until Friday had registered 35 deaths due to Covid-19.
"The medical community told me that masks are a priority. We don't have masks to respond to needs," said Cuomo, who stressed that they are looking "anywhere in the world" for medical equipment to combat the impact of the pandemic.
The governor warned that 54% of the new contagions occur in people between the ages of 18 and 49, who reiterated the need to comply with the rules that were imposed to prevent the spread of Covid-19, such as maintaining a distance of two meters.
In the last few hours, an increase of 1803 new contagions in the State has been reported.
He added that four facilities have been identified that can be converted into hospitals to respond to the demand for beds.
New York is looking to increase from 50,000 to 75,000 the beds available for patients with the new coronavirus.
According to the "New York on Pause" plan, which comes into effect on Sunday, 75% of the workforce must stay at home, concentrations are prohibited and a distance of two meters must be kept on the street. Only companies or businesses considered essential are kept open.
The federal government has declared a state of emergency in New York, which accounts for about half of all cases in the United States, which facilitates the allocation of funds.

After appearing in China in December, the outbreak spread worldwide, prompting the World Health Organization (WHO) to declare a pandemic situation.
The European continent is the one where the highest number of cases is currently emerging, with Italy being the country in the world with the highest number of fatalities, with 4,825 dead (793 more than on Friday) in 53,578 cases (more 6,557, a record in 24 hours). According to Italian authorities, 6,062 of those infected are already cured.
The countries most affected after Italy and China are Iran, with 1,556 deaths out of a total of 20,610 cases, Spain with 1,236 deaths (24,926 cases), France, with 562 deaths (14,459 cases), and the United States , with 260 deaths (19,624 cases).

Several countries have adopted exceptional measures, including the quarantine regime and border closure.
