Jurgen Klopp must "try to do something" with Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane to improve decision-making in the third final.

This is the verdict of Liverpool winner Steve Nicol, who believes that prolific Reds leaders have become "a little manic" in the third final of this season and need to work a little harder on ball retention.

Salah and Mane have been a regular source of goals for Liverpool since signing, with the pair sharing the Golden Boot with Arsenal's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang last season and Egypt's Salah winning the first season at the club.

But in a season where a lot has been written about the relationship between the duo following a Mane tantrum in Burnley, Nicol says there is still room for improvement in vocalists.

And while Liverpool have failed to score a point in their seven Premier League games so far, Nicol told ESPN he wants to see an improvement in the players.

"I wouldn't say it's a concern, I'd say I think Klopp needs to try to do something with Salah and Mane, mostly.

“In the future, they lose the ball very often. It is one thing to try to attack defenders quickly and try to break quickly.

"But it's something else to do it somehow … it's manic the way they do.

"If they can slow down a little, take a little longer and think a little more, I think the goals will start to come more for both of them if they do."

Nicol also thinks that midfielder Joel Matip is a crack in Liverpool's armor, although he admits the Cameroonians have built a solid partnership with Virgil van Dijk at the center of the defense.

The Scotsman added: “This [understanding Van Dijk] comes with time.

"They not only at the beginning of the season, but at the end of last season, spent a lot of time playing together.

“Again, Matip, I think if there was a back failure, it would be in the Matip area, but in recent weeks it has been fantastic.

"So on the back, it's a very good partnership right now."
