Jurgen Klopp hailed Liverpool's Takumi Minamino debut in a 1-0 win over Everton at the Merseyside FA Cup over Everton as "excellent."
The Reds manager made nine changes, giving Nat Phillips two initials – recovered from a loan loan in Stuttgart to play in the game – and Minamino's new signing, and a third to 19-year-old Yasser Larouci.
Another Academy graduate, 18, born in Toxteth, Curtis Jones, scored a brilliant 71 minute winner, but the whole team – with just £ 43.9 million kick-off – showed why Klopp trusted them to give their Liverpool stars a day off.
About Minamino, who arrived earlier this month with a £ 7.25 million change from RB Salzburg, Klopp said: “Super, excellent. Just the player we wanted, exactly the player we wanted.
"Your first game on a team you do not know, if it is an established team is already difficult – this team we play more or less on the pitch with two sessions together.
“And after showing that kind of understanding of the game, the skills in football are exceptional, the attitude is excellent, I led the chase group so many times in different situations, which I loved.
"He didn't look tired, but since we didn't know him for so long, we just wanted to save him a little, so we took him out. It was a good addition to have Oxlade back, he looked quite excited when he entered.
"He only trained one day, two days now, which is why he didn't start. Super."
