Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola praised midfielder Ilkay Gundogan for his "incredible" performance in the 3-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday night.
Gundogan scored two of City's three goals – scoring one and helping Riyad Mahrez – when the visitors won 3-0 in the Champions League opening game of the season.
Speaking to BT Sport after the match, Guardiola added that it is important for everyone on the team to contribute, with Gundogan taking off early in the defeat to Norwich last weekend before Wednesday's game.
“Ilkay is an amazing player, we need everyone. When we win, the manager always makes the right decisions, but when we always lose the wrong decisions. We know that, but we need everyone.
"In the next game, we will have new players coming in, because in two days you will have a long journey and with the recovery and everything, but the start of this competition is very important."
Speaking of the overall performance of the team, Guardiola said: “Well, we saw the results today and yesterday and realized how difficult the Champions League is as a competition.
“We had an amazing game, we played very well and we created chances, especially in the first minutes of the second half, where we could finish the game. Congratulations to my players because we started with three points away from home, which is very important.
"It is now in our hands when we play at home and we can build to reach the last 16."
City will now return to Manchester before a Premier League clash with Watford on Saturday.
