FX signs global agreement with Pamela Adlon and renewed Better Things!

FX made one of the best decisions in the network’s history when it helped bring Better Things to life with co-creator, director and star Pamela Adlon and, after four acclaimed seasons, officially won a fifth season and officially closed a fifth season. Emmy winner at the center of it all, according to The Hollywood reporter.

“We are really honored to work with Pamela,” said FX Entertainment President Eric Schrier in a statement. “She is one of the most talented artists in the business, which is exemplified by her work as a producer / showrunner, actor, writer and director. Better Things’ most recent season has been the best so far and we are excited about what’s coming in season five, as well as all future projects we’re working on together. “

Much like the previous three seasons, the fourth season of Better Things continued to receive even greater praise than its predecessors, currently maintaining a 100% new rating by critics of Rotten Tomatoes. Currently, the first season maintains 95% “Certified Fresh” from critics, with the second session with 96% “Certified Fresh” and the third with 100% “Certified Fresh”.

It was previously announced in May that the series had been renewed for a fifth season, along with other hit series for FX and FXX, including Dave and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, although Adlon noted in an interview with TVLine that she was not interested in developing a fifth season of the series until after the global pandemic had passed, as it would be “heartbreaking” if she couldn’t bring it to life later. With the now official renewal, the network hopes to bring the series back to its fifth season in 2021.

Better Things focuses on Sam Fox (Pamela Adlon), an actress who works without a filter and raises her three daughters, Max (Mikey Madison), Frankie (Hannah Alligood) and Duke (Olivia Edward) in Los Angeles. She is a mother, father, referee and police. Sam also takes care of his mother, Phil (Celia Imrie), an English expat who lives across the street. Sam is flawed and fierce with his love for his daughters, and his own mother too, sometimes thrilling love when he feels guilty. Sam is just trying to make a living, navigate his daughters’ lives, have fun with a friend or two and also – just maybe – squeeze in some private time every now and then.

The first two seasons of the series were produced by Louis CK Pig Newton for FX’s production company. However, the network severed all ties with the comedian and Pig Newton in late 2017, after worrying allegations about him emerged.

All four seasons of Better Things are available to stream now on Hulu!
