“Bird Box” was released by Netflix in late 2018 and became a huge success: almost 6 million people watched the feature in the first week it was available, according to the streaming platform itself.
In Brazil, for example, the film starring Sandra Bullock, John Malkovich, Sarah Paulson, Lil Rel Howery and rapper Machine Gun Kelly is still the production of the most watched platform.
Now production fans can celebrate: the sequel is in development.
Author Josh Malerman – from the book “Bird Box”, which gave rise to the film – will release “Malorie” on July 21. “(The story) Opens at the school for the blind, which is where the movie ends,” he said in an interview for the website “Inverse”. “So it jumps a few years later, and it really takes off 10 years after that,” he added.
The name of the book makes it clear that it will have a greater focus on the character that Bullock played.
Asked if there were plans for his new story to become a film as well, Malerman confirmed. “I can’t say much, but I can say that it is in development,” he revealed. “Sometimes it is strange, this whole secret, but I am involved,” he said.
The writer did not give further details about the release date on Netflix.
