US Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland confirmed in Congress Thursday that US President Donald Trump wanted the Government of Ukraine to investigate the son of his rival and former Vice President Joe Biden.
According to Sondland, who appeared in Congress as part of an investigation into the removal of US President Donald Trump "ordered" Ukrainian diplomats to talk to his personal lawyer Rudolph Giuliani in order to expedite a criminal investigation into the activities of Hunter Biden, son of Joe Biden, with a Ukrainian company, Burisma, involved in a corruption lawsuit.
According to the US ambassador to the European Union, in talks with Ukrainian diplomats that have taken place in the meantime, Giuliani "emphasized that the President wanted a public statement by the Ukrainian President (Volodymyr) Zelenskiy on the fight against corruption."
Gordon Sondland said in the commission of inquiry that Trump's personal lawyer "specifically mentioned" the Ukrainian gas company Burisma, which hired Hunter Biden, "as an important object of investigation for the President."
Donald Trump is under investigation in the House of Representatives for impeachment for abuse of his role in lobbying the Ukrainian President to investigate the activities of his political opponent's son Joe Biden with Burisma during a phone call last July.
The US ambassador to the European Union was one of the interlocutors in the process of political pressure, mediating Trump's instructions through his lawyer Rudolph Giuliani with the Government of Ukraine.
